Well Deserved Recognition
On the 30th of this past May, the children of the Fuente de Vida Children’s Village in Nicaragua, celebrated Mother’s Day by presenting gifts to their ‘mother’ Angelica Almendarez. Angelica also received phone calls from other Fuente de Vida children who were away from home on Mother’s day.

Angelica, along with her husband Felix, have been the administrators of Fuente de Vida since its inception in 1999. It is because of their tireless and selfless dedication that ICC’s work in Nicaragua has been such a success.

In fact, even before working with ICC, Angelica and Felix were already caring for a number of orphaned children in their own home following the destruction wrought by Hurricane Mitch in the fall of 1998.

Through mutual acquaintances, Angelica and Felix reached out to International Children’s Care to see if ICC would be willing to work with them in caring for those children. From that initial contact grew what has become Fuente de Vida.

This affirming celebration is testament to the devotion and commitment that is shown by all the project administrators, house parents, teachers and staff who work ‘in country’ with the children of ICC. Without them this ministry cannot function.

In particular this celebration is an acknowledgment of Angelica’s willingness to become a mother to, and willingly care for, these children as if they were her own. Thank you Angelica and Happy Mother’s Day!

They’re Gonna Need A Bigger Closet
When was the last time you heard a child make one of these statements? “My shoes are hurting my toes!” or “Look, my shoe is coming apart!” Having shoes that feel good is something to which every person can relate.

Thanks to Heidi Patchen for sending us a story about a recent shoe drive to collect shoes for ICC’s kids which can serve as an example of what you can do.

Harvest Time In Romania
Learning the rewards of long-term, concerted effort towards a specific goal is an important lesson ICC tries to instill in the children who are part of our programs.

One of the best ways we have found to teach that lesson is by including the children in managing and operating the farms that are part of each individual children’s village.

Last month ICC Romania harvested the crops from their farm. You may read the report of this year’s harvest in Romania at the following link.

We’re Back Inside
Using regional magazine ads, ICC is able to tell the story of our ministry to a greater number of people. The present instrument for this outreach is the “Gleaner,” the monthly news magazine published by the North Pacific Union Conference of the SDA Church. The “Gleaner” covers the northwest region of the U.S.

If you do not receive the “Gleaner” but would like to see the full-size version of the September 2014 ad, use the following link. You’ll find the ad on page 33.

What’s In This Month’s Qué Pasa?
In the September 2014 Qué we bid farewell to Joel Reyes, ICC’s former public relations director. Joel has accepted the principal’s position at Livingstone Adventist Academy. Following is an excerpt:

“We will truly miss Joel’s unequaled passion for ICC’s kids. No better advocate could be had for not only the children of ICC, but for all those orphaned and abandoned children who still need a home and family.”

You can read the entire tribute and much more in the September 2014 Qué Pasa!

How would you like to get a digital copy of the September 2014 Qué Pasa? One that you can read on your computer, tablet or smart phone? Click on the following link and you’ll be able read the Qué Pasa in PDF form. Enjoy!

ICC Logo None of this work would be possible without those who have committed their efforts to saving and changing the lives of “His Kids.” The children of ICC want to thank you from the bottom of their hearts for making a difference in their lives.

Occasionally when we call for funds for a specific need we receive more in donations than we requested. In those instances when we have received more money than we solicited, those funds will be placed in “Alcyon’s Angel Fund.”
