Dr. Jere Patzer (1946-2008)

Longtime friend and supporter of ICC, Dr. Jere Patzer, passed away on October 26th after a two-year battle with non-Hodgkins mantle cell lymphoma, a rare and particularly aggressive form of cancer.  Jere was 61.

When ICC founder, Alcyon Fleck, heard the news  of Jere’s passing she was filled with great sorrow.  Alcyon recalls that in the early days of ICC, Jere was a big help to her.  He was also a close personal friend and conducted Pastor Fleck’s anointing service when he was gravely ill.  A few days before Jere passed away, Alcyon spoke to Jere’s wife,  Sue, and told her she was praying for the family.  Sue relayed a message from Jere that “he reads every word that you write.”  Not only was Jere a personal friend, he was a staunch supporter of ICC.

At the time of his passing Jere was serving as President of the North Pacific Union Conference (NPUC) of the Seventh-Day Adventists.  Born in Bozeman, Montana in 1946, he graduated from Atlantic Union College in 1969 and went on to receive a Masters in Business Administration and a Doctorate in Ministry. Jere served as a pastor in New York, Pennsylvania and Oregon. He also served the NPUC as a youth ministries director and as both the Executive Secretary and President of the Upper Columbia Conference prior to his becoming the president of the NPUC.

A memorial service  will be held in honor of Jere on Saturday, November 15 at 3:00 p.m. in the Meadow Glade Seventh-day Adventist Church, Battle Ground Washington.  More information  can be obtained at the NPUC website.

Jere is survived by his wife Sue, his sons Darin and Troy and his daughter Carissa. Please join with all of us here at ICC in offering our deepest condolences to Jere’s family.   May God bless all of you in this time of deep sorrow.
