ICC has two Mission Projects for VBS to choose from:
New for 2008 SHOES FOR "HIS KIDS" and 2007 MEALS FOR "HIS KIDS".
SHOES FOR HIS KIDS
When was the last time you heard a child make one of these statements? "My shoes are hurting my toes!" or "Look, my shoe is coming apart!" Having shoes that feel good on our feet is something to which every person can relate. Many of the children who come to ICC, come with no shoes or very worn out shoes. Shoes are one of those things that wear out or become tight on the toes! At ICC Children’s Villages we recycle shoes from child to child until they wear out.
It costs about $20 to get a good quality pair of shoes in most of the countries where our children live. Imagine having to replace one pair of shoes a year in a family of 1,100+ children. In the ICC family it would cost $22,000 just to buy each child one pair of tennis shoes. So this year VBS kids around North America can really help the children to get some new shoes!
You can partner with ICC, to encourage children attending Vacation Bible School programs to help provide shoes for orphaned children. Kids Helping Kids is an excellent program for a VBS Mission project that can weave into any program theme, but is also great for Children’s Ministries who may want to participate in a short-term mission project as part of their classes, if your church doesn’t have a VBS.
Children can help provide shoes for "His Kids" by bringing a few coins to VBS each day. The VBS leader can create a fun visual aid to help the children see their progress towards reaching a goal.
If you want a more tangible experience for your VBS kids, they can bring new or like new shoes to VBS instead of coins. The shoes can be mailed or brought to ICC, 2711 NE 134th Way, Vancouver, WA, where they will be stored until a container is shipped to one of the children’s villages.
The Kids Helping Kids program will feature the stories of five children from different countries. The stories and poster-style pictures of ICC's children are designed to easily tie into any VBS theme. Kids Helping Kids also works well in the Chatter Theater part of some of the programs. These children were once all alone, very hungry and very afraid. Something tragic happened in their young lives, and they had no mother, father, or anyone else to take care of them. Through the love and care of individuals like you, these five once-orphaned children are now living in one of ICC's children's villages. They are no longer alone. They have the security and love of a family, food to eat and clothes and shoes to wear.
The Kids Helping Kids VBS Packet comes with 5 posters, each with a featured child; their stories; can labels; a video about ICC children; a parent letter; and brochures to share with parents. Posters and stories are different for each theme. MEALS FOR HIS KIDS
Try to imagine feeding 1,100+ children with only 50 cents per meal. Add to that the continually rising cost of even basic necessities like rice and beans. This is an everyday reality for ICC and its projects across the world. Properly caring for our children, in part, means providing regular meals. Many of our children’s villages are in some of the most economically depressed regions of the world. They depend on us to ensure that their food budgets are met. Heavy rains and tropical storms have devastated crops in many of our countries in the last year, driving the price of food very high. We need your help.
When was the last time your child made the statement "I'm hungry!" Chances are it was right before their next meal. We believe that hunger is something to which even well cared for children can relate. The difference is that in the countries where ICC is established, hunger for a child can last for days with no assurance that a meal is coming anytime soon.
You can partner with ICC, to encourage children attending Vacation Bible School programs this next summer to help ICC provide food for our ICC children. Kids Helping Kids is also an excellent program for Children’s Ministries who may want to participate in a short-term mission project as part of their classes.
If you are planning a VBS program this summer, Kids Helping Kids is ready-made to become part of your endeavor. The basic premise is that the children can help provide meals for "His Kids" by bringing a few coins to VBS each day. The VBS leader can create a fun visual aid to help the children see their progress towards reaching a goal.
If you want a more tangible experience for your VBS kids, they can bring dry rice or beans instead of coins. The rice or beans can be mailed or brought to ICC, 2711 NE 134th Way, Vancouver, WA, where they will be stored until a container is shipped to one of the children’s villages.
