Baking Bread In Romania!

Friday, October 5th, 2012

After many years of construction and untold hours of labor from volunteers and local workers the ICC Romania Bakery is now baking bread! As part of the start-up team, ICC sent two volunteers to assist with marketing, accounting and general oversight.

One of those volunteers, Jerry Grecian, called on Wednesday, October 3 to say that the bakery was up and running! They baked 40 loaves of bread the first day. The kids helped to celebrate the start-up. The group who gathered sang songs, prayed and enjoyed the fresh baked bread. Jerry said he never saw bread disappear so quickly.

Other members of the start-up team include Theo, a Dutch baker, and his colleague, Ben. They had arrived Tuesday evening, October 2, and it was rewarding to see that they were already baking bread the next day! Praise the Lord!

Thank-you to all volunteers and donors who have contributed to this industry. We pray that it will be a financial blessing to our ICC family in Romania.

Another Transport to Romania

Friday, January 20th, 2012

On the 22nd of November another transport was loaded for Romania by the ICC office in the Netherlands. Dutch volunteers loaded a Romanian truck with building materials for the bakery. Items included natural stone, special glue for floor tiles and special lighting fixtures for the ceiling. There were three pallets with food and some clothes, toys and furniture.

The shipment also contained 750 shoe boxes. Each shoe box was filled with school materials and a gift. ICC Romania will give these boxes to the pupils of the elementary schools in the surroundings of the ICC Children Village. ICC Romania will also distribute 220 family boxes with food for the poorest families in their area.

Over the years ICC has developed a lighthouse program to support the needs in their community.

Spaghetti, Spaghetti and more Spaghetti

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

Five years ago a new activity for ICC Belgium came to life, a Spaghetti Festivity. In that year, 2007, we started very modest with 60 subscriptions and a net profit of 375 Euro / $490 USD.
In 2011, 145 people found their way to Mechelen and the profit was 2,100 Euro / $2,745 USD.

Our cook surpassed himself once again this year. Everyone enjoyed the very tasty spaghetti sauce with fresh vegetables and some of the visitors even took a second portion. Everyone was full of praise of our cook. We were also able to count again on our volunteers who lent a hand, even two hands.

The cooks and staff prepare the food.

Wim the chef, Coszack his assitant and Anja and Louiza prepare the food.

The sales table has also become a yearly tradition and different kind of items (also handmade) were nicely presented. And lots of items were sold during these two days, thanks to the handmade items of Carmen and the handmade Christmas pieces of Denise.

As president of ICC Belgium, I’m very proud of my ICC team and I would like to thank the whole team for the enormous work that they have done: Wim (Chef Cook), Coszack (Assistant Cook), Anja and Louiza (kitchen help), Mia, Ingrid and Carmen (Bartenders), Frank, Jozef, Mario and Kristof (Waiters), Francine and Dirk (Sales Table) and Jeannine who always helps us out with the promotional materials for our events.

A word of thanks as well to those who came and to those who were not able to come but gave their financial support. We were able to close out this year in a fantastic and wonderful way!

Another Shipment of Supplies for Romania

Friday, May 20th, 2011

IKN (ICC Netherlands) has sent another transport this week to Romania. Every year they send two full trucks with relief goods to the ICC Romania children’s village. This time the truck was filled with items like paint, 43 new children bicycles, adult and children’s clothing, CAT work clothing, and two big water tanks for catching rain water.

Also included was roofing material. The ICC Romania Children’s village has a “lighthouse project” that provides assistance in the surrounding village. Around 40% of the people of this village live in extreme poverty. The roofing material will be used to put new roofs on 10 homes. This will be done this summer by a group of ADRA Netherlands volunteers.

ICC Belgium – 20 year Jubilee

Monday, April 11th, 2011

1990 – 1991 was a milestone for ICC Belgium. At that time ICC Belgium vzw was initiated, thanks to Ann Buelens-Peremans, and also became registered as a non-profit organization. 20 years later, many things have happened: sad moments, Ann passing a way on May 8th, 1993, and beautiful moments, with 20 years of positive growth that ICC Belgium has made.

Because 20 years is a nice round figure and also a long period of time, we absolutely had to celebrate this. Thanks to our sponsors and donors our organization is able to exist. And because of that we had to celebrate this with those who are so important to us, our sponsors and donors.

20th Anniversery Jubilee for ICC Belgium

On Sunday, March 27th, the time arrived for this important celebration. The reception room of the Adventist church in Mechelen was transformed very beautifully with balloons and ICC logo’s pinned to the ceiling. A buffet table was prepared and the food and little snacks were all very nice to the taste of everyone present. This, combined with a nice drink, made this feast complete.

For this occasion, Mr. Ali Salmi, Secretary of Development and Relief Aid for the city of Mechelen was also invited. At 2.00 pm the guests were welcomed and around 2.30 pm everyone was invited to the church hall upstairs for the official presentation.

First of all, Ronny gave a Power Point presentation about the 20 years of ICC in Belgium. Afterwards, Ali Salmi gave his speech. He congratulated ICC Belgium with their 20 year anniversary and he also praised ICC for its involvement within the Council of Development & Relief Aid (GRO..M) since 2003. He also praised ICC for their valued work for abandoned and orphaned children around the world. Since 2003 ICC Belgium has received a yearly grant from the city of Mechelen. The secretary finished by wishing ICC Belgium another 20 years!

During the official ceremony, Lambro Triantos, director of the European office in the Netherlands, had a surprise for the ICC Belgium team. He gave a beautiful jubilee plaque, presented by Rick Fleck, president of ICC International. The European office (IKN) also presented to Ronny a beautiful picture from a well-known artist in the Netherlands, Ron Offerman.

A special thank you for our sponsors and donors for their presence. A word of thanks also to all the volunteers of ICC Belgium for their enormous efforts in all they do for ICC and to my family and a few very dear friends who are always willing to lend a hand or two.
