A Small Note at the end of 2010

Friday, January 14th, 2011

We are coming to the end of 2010, which was at the same time the first year of our new Village, and a year in which, with God’s help, we have been able to achieve many advances in getting the new campus in shape so that the kids each day feel better, more comfortable and really at home. In spite of the fact that we had to go through a time of adaptation, the academic achievement of our kids was excellent with 100% passing their grade, and several kids had outstanding grades.

Although we have had many achievements, it was also a very difficult year, especially because of the different tragedies that affected the world—and our country was not spared. In the months of August, September and part of October, rains devastated many areas of the country, especially the Pacific coastal area where we are located.

Many families had to evacuate because of flooding in the area after a long dry season which had also affected them adversely. These families, who are mostly farmers, not only had to leave their homes but also lost all their crops that they had cultivated, and that represented their entire livelihood.

We couldn’t just stand by with our arms crossed in view of such disaster, so we took them some clothes, sheets, and we shared some of our corn crop. Also we gave them some of the milk from our cows. Our farm, thanks to the excellent location that we have, was not damaged by the rains. Two days before Christmas, with funds donated from ICC sponsors who wanted to support our effort, we were able to prepare 70 packets of food that we gave out to poor families who had been affected by the flooding. This brought great joy to these families.

As we do each year, we had a Christmas dinner with members of our board, staff and friends who support the children’s village. Also this year our kids gave a little gift to the people who clean the streets and pick up the garbage in our town, El Viejo. This allowed us to take a bit of cheer to other children as we shared our blessings with them.

Christmas was a little different this year, with bigger arrangements, since we had more room. The kids enjoyed the space to play in nature, thanks to the beautiful home that our Creator has given us.

During 2010 we were able to feel the marvelous hand of God caring for us, providing for us and showing us the way during difficult times. We are sure that in this New Year He will again be our great Helper, as it says in Philippians 4:19, “And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” NIV

May God bless you and may the presence of our Creator be in each ICC program and in the hearts of all those who allow God to use them in this marvelous work of caring for the most needy.

I Am Writing To You With A Very Sad Heart

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

Our ICC children’s villages are true homes for our children. Most of them never had a family until they came to our children’s village. Through the love and care that they receive, they are transformed. As they grow and become independent, with time they move on to lead lives of their own.

However, for those of us who nurtured them and saw them grow, the story doesn’t end there. They continue to be part of our lives and our love for them does not fade with time. We keep in touch with them. Many times we counsel them. Sometimes, like any loving parent, we even scold them if they allow us to. We rejoice in their triumphs and hurt in their sorrows. They are our kids, members of our family.

I always enjoy sharing with you the hundreds of success stories from the children that come to the refuge that ICC offers them and then move on to lead successful lives.

Today I am writing to you with a very sad heart. Last week we were notified about the tragic death of two members of the ICC extended family in El Salvador. Oscar and Sarita grew up in our children’s village there. They had both left to lead lives of their own. The ICC family mourns their death together and we long like never before for our Lord’s return.

Yes, we are sick of so much violence, death, and pain. This old world is only getting sicker and sicker by the minute, and we know it will not get any better. Please help us by praying for all the innocent children who are caught in the middle of this mess, and for our young people who, after enjoying the safety of our children’s villages, have to go into the real world and face all of Satan’s fury and arsenal of death.

Let’s cling tight to our Blessed Hope, that one day soon He will come and end all this sorrow and pain. We at ICC talk of the big picnic we will have in heaven with all the children that were saved through the work of this ministry. Please reserve the date; you are invited too.

A Day at the Beach

Sunday, January 9th, 2011

Here is a message some of us at ICC received from Lilly Kaligithi recently. I thought you ‘d be interested in her report and some of the pictures she sent.

We had a wonderful time together. All our children were home from Spicer College, Bangalore, Rajahmundry, Vizag and Vijayawada. Our children enjoyed the Christmas and New Year special meals. I took them to Perupalem beach on the lst evening just to enjoy the inspiring sights of the sea and sunset. Today I am giving them the last picnic with special meal of the season. Thank you for the money you had sent for Christmas celebrations.

Will you please pass on our grateful thanks to all those who have contributed? School is re-opening tomorrow and we are going to get busy again. Xth and XIIth Graders have Division examinations from the 10th of this month. Please pray for them. The Govt. Board Examinations are fast approaching—Practical examinations are in February and theory in March.

[Here are] the photos of our trip to the Perupalem beach on the lst of Jan, 2011. Children got into the water in the evening. I just want to share this joy with you.

With New Year greetings,

Lilly

Notice the emphasis of having all the children home for the holiday. Just like your home, ICC homes provide a sense of family and community to our kids—young and old. What a blessing your donations and support continue to be to our ICC children in India and all the projects of ICC.  Thanks for continuing to make this ministry possible.
